Vol. 458 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

128 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, that has been made regarding national lottery funding for the playing pitches at Glenties comprehensive school, County Donegal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17305/95]

My Department has no record of receiving a recent application for national lottery funding for the playing pitches at Glenties comprehensive school.

The position in relation to school sports facilities is that, in general, school projects are not eligible for national lottery funding under either the major sports capital programme or the recreational facilities scheme. However, a limited number of school sports facilities have been assisted under the schemes where the project is being undertaken by a local community group in co-operation with a school. One of the conditions attaching to the scheme is that the completed facility must be available to all sections of the community.

I am arranging to have an application form sent to the school.
