156 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the amount and type of drugs uncovered in the Prison Officer's Section of Mountjoy prison; the outcome of the internal investigations; and if the matter has been reported to the Garda for further investigation. [17330/95]

A small quantity of what is believed to be drugs was discovered concealed in a room on Mountjoy Prison on Wednesday, 8 November, 1995. Pending analysis, it is not possible to positively identify the particular substance involved. The matter was reported to the Garda on Wednesday afternoon and an internal investigation by the prison authorities was commenced immediately.

While I have received a preliminary report on the matter from the prison Governor, it would not be appropriate for me to make any further comment until the final results of both investigations are available to me.
