Vol. 458 No. 5

Written Answers. - Culliton Report.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

177 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the additional State agencies that have been set up to date as a result of the implementation of the Culliton report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17347/95]

The Culliton report recommended that separate agencies for the attraction of foreign direct investment and the development of indigenous industry should be established. In addition, the report recommended that an advisory board on industrial policy should be set up and attached to the Department.

The Industrial Development Act, 1993, provided for the establishment of new agency structures in response to these recommendations. IDA Ireland is responsible for the attraction of FDI in all sectors other than food and natural resources which are dealt with by Forbairt — which has primary responsibility for the development of indigenous industry. Forfás has responsibility for the policy and co-ordination. The board of Forfás which has representatives from the development agencies, industry, business and my Department carries out the advisory role recommended in the Culliton report.
