Vol. 458 No. 5

Written Answers. - St. Loman's Hospital Nursing Staff.

Paul McGrath

Question:

74 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Health if any nurses who are on the staff of Saint Loman's Hospital, Mullingar, County Westmeath, and are on the nursing panel for permanent positions which was established in 4 April 1995, are in a full-time temporary capacity; and the reason these nurses are not offered permanent positions. [17156/95]

Limerick East): The Midland Health Board is responsible for the management of services and deployment of staff at St. Loman's Psychiatric Hospital, Mullingar, County Westmeath. Current personnel policy for the health service provides that health agencies which are managing resources within allocation may fill non-consultant replacement posts, including nursing vacancies, without recourse to my Department.

A panel for permanent nursing posts at St Loman's Hospital was established on 4 April 1995. To date, three vacancies have been filled from this panel. One full-time temporary nurse is presently on the panel. The filling of further posts is the subject of discussions between the board and the staff associations at St. Loman's Hospital, and further posts will be filled in a permanent capacity as soon as these discussions have been finalised.
