Written Answers. - Attendance at UN Women's Conference.

Question:

92 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the names of all Government advisers who attended the UN Women's Conference; the length of each of their stays; the reason for their attendance; the individual travel costs; the overall cost of their attendance; and if he has satisfied himself with arrangements to ensure that all costs for such conferences are kept to a minimum. The following persons serving in my Department attended the Fourth World Conference on Women for varying periods and had an advisory role and were involved in negotiations and discussions in relation to the Conference: Mr. Bernard McDonagh, secretary; Ms Anne Kinsella, partnership programme manager; Mr. John Hurley, principal officer; Mr. Richard Humphreys, special adviser to Minister and Ms Frances Comerford assistant principal officer. The total travel and subsistence costs associated with the attendance of these persons amounted to about £20,618. The breakdown of the costs is as follows:

The Deputy should put down questions to other Minister if she wishes to obtain information about delegates from other Departments. I can assure the Deputy that the expenditure incurred was the minimum consistent with the proper representation of Ireland at an event as significant as this.
