Vol. 458 No. 5

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Proposals.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

114 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education if the supplementary submission from DISC on its 50 metre pool proposals has been received in her Department; the consideration, if any, which has been given to this submission; when a decision is likely in view of the very strong merits of the case; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17191/95]

Revised proposals for the provision of a 50 metre pool, which have recently been received from the Dublin International Sports Council, are under consideration in my Department. The Minister of State at my Department recently met representatives of the Dublin International Sports Council and the International Swimming Hall of Fame to clarify issues on the project and further information in respect of their proposals has been sought.

A project of this scale requires very careful and detailed consideration before any decision can be made in the matter in view of the overall capital and operating costs involved. Due to its implications for Exchequer funding I am not in a position to say at this stage when a decision about the project can be made.
