Vol. 458 No. 7

Written Questions. - Dublin Special School Funding.

Noel Ahern

Question:

62 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the funding given by her Department to Catherine McAuley Special School, Baggot Street, Dublin 2; if the funding is similar to that given to other national schools; if her attention has been drawn to the special claims for additional funding for the school which operates outside the normal parish structure; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17588/95]

My Department allocated approximately £20,000 to Catherine McAuley Special School in 1994.

The school in question, together with one other school which also caters for children with specific learning disability, is funded directly by my Department. All other schools are funded by means of capitation grants.

The direct funding arrangement in place in the case of these two schools is in recognition of the fact that both schools attract pupils from wide catchment areas which are not parish-based.

The funding needs of Catherine McAuley School are currently being considered in my Department in the context of submissions received from the school on this issue.
