Vol. 458 No. 8

Written Answers. - Teaching Post.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

121 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education the reason the 13th teaching post sanctioned in September 1995, is being instructed to go on to the teachers transfer panel; if she will agree that this teacher be allowed to serve out her term at St. Pius X girls national school, Templeogue, Dublin 6, until the end of term in June 1996, in view of the fact that there is an anticipated intake of additional students envisaged for next term; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17616/95]

The 13th assistant's post was provisionally sanctioned by my Department earlier this year. The post was sanctioned because the managerial authorities at the school projected that the enrolment of the school in September 1995 would be 424 pupils. An enrolment of 424 would qualify the school for a developing school post.

The school subsequently failed to achieve this enrolment. Accordingly the 13th assistant's post at the school has now been suppressed.

In the circumstances, I regret that the teacher in question will not be permitted to remain at the school for the 1995-96 school year. However, she has been offered panel rights.
