Vol. 458 No. 8

Written Answers. - Charity Lotteries.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

148 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Justice the views, if any, she has on amending legislation to raise or remove the cap on prizes for charity lotteries. [17694/95]

There is a commitment in the Government Policy Agreement to reform the law relating to administration and regulation of charities along the lines of the Report of the Committee on Fundraising Activities for Charitable and other purposes which included recommendations relating to the improvement of the position of charitable lotteries.

Work on the preparation of the necessary legislation is proceeding in my Department and it is my intention that proposals, including proposals relating to the improvement of the position of charities, will be brought before Government as quickly as possible.
