Vol. 458 No. 8

Written Answers. - High Communications Costs.

David Andrews

Question:

163 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the assessments, if any, his Department has made regarding the negative effect on trade arising from high communication costs in Ireland. [17898/95]

As Minister with responsibility for trade policy, I strongly support any measure promoted by my colleagues in Government which is designed to create an environment which facilitates companies operating here in gaining a competitive advantage. In the case of specific cost issues, such as are raised in this instance by Deputy Andrews, questions should be addressed to the relevant Minister with responsibility for the specific functional area. In this case, where reference is made to comparative communications costs, it is a matter for the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications.
