Vol. 458 No. 8

Written Answers. - Free Beef Distribution.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

179 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the names of the persons who will be involved in the distribution of free beef in an area (details supplied) in County Cork. [17873/95]

The distribution of the free beef under EU Regulation 3149/92 is being undertaken throughout the country by designated charitable organisations such as The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Lions Clubs, Meals on Wheels etc. No charitable organisation in this area has applied for the beef in question. Only a small quantity, mainly corned beef, remains available for allocation. My Department would be pleased to hear from recognised charitable organisations so that this quantity can be distributed in areas which, up to now, have not indicated interest in the scheme.
