Vol. 458 No. 8

Written Answers. - Shannon/Cork Airport Comparisons.

Tony Killeen

Question:

185 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the advantages, if any, Shannon airport enjoys over Cork airport in terms of airport charges in view of his recent announcements. [17894/95]

At my request Aer Rianta has formulated a new traffic incentive discount package for the four years 1996-99.

As I announced at Shannon on 24 October 1995, the new schemes will include a special package for Shannon Airport: no aircraft landing charges or passenger load fees for new services or new traffic for two years and greater discounts for existing traffic in off-peak periods.

This scheme will also apply at Cork airport. There will thus be no advantage for Shannon vis-á-vis Cork Airport in relation to airport charges.
