Vol. 458 No. 8

Written Answers. - Commercial Enterprise Guidelines.

Máirín Quill

Question:

104 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he intends to set out any criteria or to lay down any guidelines with regard to compatibility between the nature of the commercial enterprises and the objectives of those promoting heritage, art and culture in respect of commercial sponsorship for art and heritage programmes. [17837/95]

It is my view that all commercial enterprises should be encouraged to support heritage, art and culture programmes within the State in which they operate. However, I agree that the nature of the commercial enterprises supporting such programmes and their compatibility with the objectives of those promoting heritage, art and culture programmes, could be a matter for concern in particular cases.

Accordingly, I have asked officials in my Department to draw up appropriate policy guidelines for commercial support in respect of such programmes directly funded by my Department.
