Question:

144 Dr. Moffatt asked the Minister for Education if she will make an announcement regarding the reclassification of Keenagh national school, Ballina, County Mayo, to disadvantaged status in view of the recent report of the Combat Poverty Agency and the other relevant data which is to hand. [17846/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 118, 119, 131 and 144 together.

I am aware that the schools referred to by the Deputies have applied for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme. A detailed report prepared by the Combat Poverty Agency on current approaches to the identification and support of pupils in disadvantaged areas, is currently being considered in my Department.

This report will provide a valuable input into the development of future approaches to addressing the problem of educational disadvantage. The needs of the schools referred to by the Deputies will be considered in the context of any expansion of the disadvantaged areas scheme which may be undertaken.
