Liz O'Donnell

12 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Finance whether his Department has commenced explanatory discussions or negotiations for a new national wage agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17880/95]

Robert Molloy

Question:

37 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Finance whether his Department has commenced explanatory discussions or negotiations for a new national wage agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17879/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 12 and 37 together. The current national pay agreement forms part of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work. This programme will run until the end of 1996. In the case of the public service, the pay agreement covers the period up to the end of June 1997. To date there have been no discussions between the Government and the social partners about a new national programme or pay agreement to succeed the Programme for Competitiveness and Work. There are ongoing contacts with the social partners in the Central Review Committee of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work, but the issue of a national programme or pay agreement to follow the Programme for Competitiveness and Work has not been the subject of discussion.
