Vol. 459 No. 1

Written Answers. - Clearing Houses.

Liam Aylward

Question:

38 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance his intentions on the issue of clearing houses; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15181/95]

I would like to advise the Deputy that my Department is currently in the process of preparing the draft heads of a Central Bank Bill. The Bill will address, inter alia, the question of supervising the establishment and operation of payment systems in the State. Any decisions on the specific provisions to be included in the Bill will, of course, be a matter for Government. While the Bill is still in the preparatory stages, I hope to be in a position to introduce it in the relatively near future, probably in the next session.
