Vol. 459 No. 1

Written Answers. - Livestock Grants.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Question:

112 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of applications for livestock grants that are held up in County Galway due to difficulties in relation to area aid forms and in view of the fact that his Department does not have a current area aid form to hand. [17964/95]

Of the 44,026 1995 livestock aid applications recorded to date as having been received from Galway farmers under schemes that are subject to area aid application requirements some 2.75 per cent or 1,222 are not being paid because of area aid problems. It is estimated that the number of farmers who have such problems is about 400 out of approx. 15,700 livestock farmers in the county.

I have asked my Department to take up with the European Commission the problems of non-submission and late submission of area aid applications in 1995 to see if it might be possible to resolve those problems.
