Written Answers. - Community Employment Programmes.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

163 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of people employed on Community Employment Programmes. [18056/95]

The number of community employment participants at the end of November was 38,763.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

164 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment when it is proposed to publish legislation on the role of credit unions. [18100/95]

Credit Unions are currently registered and supervised under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts 1893 to 1978, with particular emphasis on the Credit Union Act, 1966, and the Industrial and Provident Societies (Amendment) Act, 1978. The Registrar of Friendly Societies is the statutory supervisory authority. Proposals for a Credit Union Bill to consolidate and update this body of legislation which extends over 100 years are currently with the parliamentary draftsman for drafting. It is my intention to introduce the necessary Bill as soon as possible.
