Vol. 459 No. 7

Written Answers. - Education Legislation.

Ivor Callely

Question:

101 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the number of Bills published by her Department for each of the years 1992 to date in 1995; the titles of the Bills; the number of these Bills that were passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas; if she has satisfied herself with progress in 1995; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18699/95]

The information sought by the Deputy in relation to Bills published by my Department for each of the years to date is as follows:—

1992 (1) Local Authorities (Higher Education Grants) Bill, 1992.

1993 None

1994 (1) Regional Technical Colleges (Amendment) Bill, 1994.

(2) Dublin Institute of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 1994.

(3) Regional Technical Colleges (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1994.

All the listed Bills were passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas with the exception of the Regional Technical Colleges (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1994 which was withdrawn. This Bill became unnecessary as the provisions in it were incorporated in the Regional Technical Colleges (Amendment) Act, 1994.

While no Bills have been published in 1995 work is well advanced in my Department on Bills in relation to universities and education boards and boards of management which will be published in 1996. Work is also ongoing on two further Bills relating to school attendance and youth affairs which will also be published in 1996.
