169 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health the steps, if any, he will take to provide drug treatment for a person (details supplied) at the city clinic, Amiens Street, Dublin 1, in view of the fact that he lives in its vicinity and due to a recent accident when he fractured a leg cannot travel to the centre in Pearse Street. Dublin 2, and is on the waiting list at the city clinic for over a year. [1004/96]
Limerick East): As the Deputy is aware the provision of drug treatment services in this city is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance.
I have made inquiries into this matter and I understand that the person in question is on a treatment programme at the Drug Treatment Centre, Pearse Street and manages to attend without undue hardship. Admission to a treatment programme at the city clinic, Amiens Street, is on a priority basis taking into account the person's medical condition and other factors such as whether the person in question is already on a maintenance programme at another centre. The Eastern Health Board has indicated that, given that this individual is already on a maintenance programme at the Drug Treatment Centre, it is not disposed to transferring him to a programme at the city clinic.
