Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hip Operation Delay.

Michael Ring

Question:

181 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for a corrective hip operation in view of the fact that she has been waiting for several years and was due to be called in February 1994. [1256/96]

Limerick East): I have been informed by the Western Health Board that this person was seen at an out-patient clinic on 6 December 1994 and was placed on the in-patient waiting list at that time. The board is unable to give an exact admission date for this person but has indicated that she will be called at the next available date.

As the Deputy is aware the scheduling of surgery is the clinical decision of the consultant concerned. Should this person feel that her condition has deteriorated she should contact her general practitioner who is best placed to highlight the urgency of her case directly to the consultant.
