Question:183 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health when he will inform the Southern Health Board of the date on which the vacant post of neurologist will be filled. [1258/96]

Limerick East): The Department approved the filling of the post of consultant neurologist at Cork Regional Hospital on 18 May 1994. The post was subsequently cleared by Comhairle na nOspidéal on 28 September 1994. The Local Appointments Commission advertised the post in January 1995 but difficulties have since arisen with regard to the date from which the recommended candidate could take up the offer of appointment. Discussions are ongoing and the Commission hopes to be in a position to make a final recommendation in the near future.
