Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sligo Relief Road.

John Ellis

Question:

237 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement regarding the Sligo relief road; and the proposals, if any, he has to relieve traffic congestion in the town. [19215/95]

I understand that an environmental impact statement for the proposed Sligo relief road and a compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of property required for the scheme will be submitted to me for decision in the near future by Sligo Corporation.

Notices will be inserted in the press by the corporation at that stage inviting those interested to make written submissions to me in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed development. In addition, if an objection is received by me against confirmation of the CPO, a public local inquiry must be held.
In view of my quasi-judicial role in relation to both the EIS and the CPO, it would not be appropiate for me to comment further at this stage.
