Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Provision of School Meals.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

320 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education the estimated cost of providing school meals in primary schools similar to those being provided in Northern Ireland; and if she intends to provide this facility. [19239/95]

The information sought by the Deputy is not available in my Department. The position in relation to school meals is that local authorities, in conjunction with the Department of Social Welfare and with the approval of this Department, provide meals for certain schools. This scheme is administered by the local authorities. I have no plans for my Department to provide such a facility directly.
