The following Bills are at present being prepared in my Department: an education Bill — to provide for the establishment of education boards for ten education regions, for the setting up of boards of management in schools and for related matters; a universities Bill — to provide for the restructuring of the National University of Ireland, for governance structures of the university institutions and provisions relating to accountability in the affairs of the institutions; a youth services Bill — to provide a statutory basis for the development of youth work; and a school attendance Bill — to amend the provisions relating to compulsory school attendance.

A statutory instrument under section 19 of the Local Government (Dublin) (Amendment) Act, 1993 is at present being prepared in my Department. This statutory instrument will provide for the filling of casual vacancies on the vocational education committees in the Dublin local authority areas.
