Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Visiting Teacher Service.

Tony Gregory

Question:

371 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the assistance, if any, available to a child (details supplied) in Dublin 7 who has Down's syndrome, such as back-up services, visiting teacher or any other available service. [1426/96]

My Department is currently pursuing the possibility of providing a visiting teacher service to the child in question. I would be hopeful that the necessary arrangements can be put in place in the near future. The school which the child attends also has the services of a remedial teacher. The role of the remedial teacher is to provide tuition to pupils with special needs, such as the child in question, who are integrated into the ordinary class situation.
