Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Appointment of Examiners.

Michael Bell

Question:

502 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that an examiner has been appointed to Lissadell Towels; and the plans, if any, he has to assist the company to serve as a major textile company in an area of high unemployment. [19120/95]

I am aware that an examiner was appointed to Lissadell Towels by the High Court on 11 December 1995. As provided by legislation, the examination is a matter under the control of the court. It is not a matter in which I have a function. The examiner was required to carry out an examination of the company's affairs and he has reported to the court thereon. The examiner is now in the process of preparing a further report for the court which will detail his restructuring proposals and the outcome of the meetings which he is required to hold with members and creditors. Obviously any further developments are a matter for the court-controlled examination, and must await the consideration of this report by the court.
