572 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he has satisfied himself with the savings-restructuring plan agreed between the ESB and the unions; and if it is in line with his expectations. [19179/95]
The tripartite Cost and Competitiveness Review is now almost complete. Agreement has been reached on wide-ranging changes to working practices and 2,000 voluntary redundancies.
I am satisfied that these changes will introduce a new era of efficiency in the ESB for the benefit of consumers and the competitiveness of the company as it faces the challenges of liberalisation in EU electricity markets.
