Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Aer Lingus Procurement.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

587 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications whether Aer Lingus continues to support small Irish manufacturing companies for their public procurement activities; his views on recent suggestions that long serving Irish manufacturers were being replaced by United Kingdom suppliers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1119/96]

Aer Lingus has indicated to my Department that its purchasing arrangements reflect the requirement to operate in a highly competitive industry to best cost practice. The buying policy of the airline is to obtain best value for money, consistent with quality and commercial benefits, taking into account technical specifications and safety requirements as appropriate.

Aer Lingus has indicated that it will continue to support Irish industry in the light of the above criteria, operating within the Government guidelines on procurement.
