Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Donegal-Dublin Air Service.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

590 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the progress, if any, that has been made on the establishment of an air service between Carrickfin, County Donegal and Dublin. [1340/96]

Following consultation with the airport company, the public service obligations attaching to the Donegal-Dublin route, on the basis of which an air service would be subsidised by the Exchequer, were amended.

The new public service obligations attaching to the route were advertised in the Official Journal of the European Communities on 6 January 1996. Under EU Council Regulation 2408/92, a period of time (one month) must be allowed from 6 January 1996 to ascertain if any carrier wishes to operate the route without subsidy.
In the event that no such applications are received, invitations to air carriers to tender on the public service obligations basis will be published in the Official Journal early February 1996.
