81 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Taoiseach the total sums available in grant assistance to voluntary agencies under the scheme of grant supports under the support for local development grant assistance scheme and if he will supply a list of grant applications and sums allocated in 1995 to voluntary agencies under the support for local development grant assistance scheme. Financial assistance to voluntary agencies engaged in local development is available from a broad range of schemes operated under the aegis of my Department.
The Operational Programme for Local Urban and Rural Development 1994-1999 has total funding available through ADM for Partnership Companies in 35 designated disadvantaged areas and for other Community Groups totalling £104 million approximately. Support for County Enterprise Boards over the same period will amount to £81 million approximately. Support for Urban and Village Renewal as part of the local development process will amount to £102 million approximately.
In addition, the arrangements for the European Urban Initiative will be in place this year and will provide £16 million approximately for integrated urban regeneration projects in three areas, viz: West Tallaght/Clondalkin and North Cork City.
The total sum available for assistance under the Special Local Development Grant Scheme is £1,122,845 and the total number of applications received was 197.
Following is a list of the 37 applications which have been processed and were allocated funding in 1995.
The balance of 160 applications (list follows) are currently being evaluated and this should be completed shortly.
Priority is being given to those areas not in receipt of Urban Initiative, Leader or similar direct financial assistance.
Furthermore, on a once off basis, £120,000 was allocated to seven island voluntary agencies in 1995 (list follows) from funds available for Western Development.
