612 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Marine the proposals for legislation being prepared under the auspices of his Department that have not yet been published; and the statutory instruments being prepared in his Department. [19397/96]

Minister for the Marine (Mr. Barrett)

Proposals for amendment of the Foyle Fisheries Act, 1952 for the establishment of a new statutory framework for the regulation of aquaculture, and for a Merchant Shipping (Liability of Shipowners and Others) Bill, are being prepared under the auspices of my Department.

Statutory Instruments are under preparation on a number of matters relating to my Department's functions, including the transposition into Irish law of certain EU directives, and will be published in the normal way when made. In addition, I will shortly lay before both Houses of the Oireachtas a draft order under the Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 1995 which will propose the appointment of a commission to carry out certain functions of the Southern Regional Fisheries Board.
