Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Directives.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

617 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Marine the EU Directives coming wholly or partly under the auspices of his Department that were not fully implemented as of 1 January 1996; the reference number and subject matter of each Directive; the deadline for implementation set out in the Directive; whether it is proposed to implement the Directive by means of a Bill or by Statutory Instrument; and when it is proposed to implement the Directive. [19483/96]

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the following table.

It is my intention that all of the directives whose implementation date has passed will be formally transposed into Irish law as soon as possible, and that the other directives for which my Department is responsible will be transposed in accordance with the prescribed deadlines. While the mode of transposition for particular directives will be settled in consultation with the Attorney General's Office, I would expect most of the directives referred to in the Table to be incorporated into domestic law through statutory instruments.
