I propose to take Questions Nos. 622 and 623 together.
Authorisations to fish for eels are granted by my Department on foot of scientific advice received for the area concerned. On receipt of the authorisation an applicant may then seek a licence to fish for eels from the relevant regional board. Lough Corrib is in the Western Regional Fisheries Board region.
The number of authorisations granted for individual river systems vary from year to year, depending on the number of applications received for the area and the level of fishing effort which each system may sustain.
The information requested by the Deputy on the number of authorisations issued for Lough Corrib in the years 1990 to 1995 is set out in the following tabular statement:
