Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disposal of Prefabricated Property.

Albert Reynolds

Question:

143 Mr. Reynolds asked the Minister for Finance if he will authorise the transfer of one of the prefabs at Battery Road, Longford from the Office of Public Works to a community group in Longford as a contribution towards community development. [1279/96]

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, these prefabs were recently advertised for sale by the Commissioners of Public Works. The possibility has since arisen of again putting the structures to State use in Waterford, where Garda accommodation is urgently needed. This question is under consideration by the Garda Authorities and the Department of Justice and a decision is expected shortly. If the prefabs do not prove suitable for Garda use, the Farnagh Residents Association's application (supported by a number of representations from interested parties) will be considered by the Minister for Finance, in the light of all the relevant facts including other offers received.
