Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - North Dublin Health Education Officer.

Tony Gregory

Question:

153 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health if he intends to appoint a health education officer for Dublin's north inner city on a pilot basis in view of the heroin problem and the level of social deprivation in the area. [19299/96]

Limerick East): The provision of services and the appointment of staff in the Eastern Health Board is a matter for the board in the first instance.

As part of its overall plan to improve drug misuse prevention services the Eastern Health Board has submitted proposals to my Department for the appointment of three health education officers, with special responsibility for drug education, in 1996. The board proposes that one of these posts would serve the north inner city area and the appointee would liaise with all groups, both statutory and voluntary, in the provision of education and preventive initiatives for the area. This request is under consideration at present.
