Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - Proposed Waterford-Dublin Motorway.

Liam Aylward

Question:

151 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received confirmation of a decision by the European Parliament approving the construction of a motorway from Waterford city to Dublin which will pass through Kilkenny; and if so, if he will outline the details of this proposal. [1931/96]

The reply to Question No. 93 of 27 September 1995 set out the position in relation to the proposed creation of the Trans European Networks (TENS). The TENS proposals have not yet been finalised at EU level.

The creation of the TENS, and the inclusion of a route in the network; will not constitute approval for the construction or funding of specific projects. Within the overall framework, the selection of projects, and the allocation of grants for them, will continue to be a matter for the National Roads Authority.
