Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - Physiotherapy Courses.

Michael Smith

Question:

164 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that a significant increase is granted for college places in physiotherapy in order to provide much needed services in this area. [1729/96]

Physiotherapy courses are provided in University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin. Both offer four year degree programmes. There are 269 students currently pursuing these courses.

The Higher Education Authority maintains a continuous review of the demand and need for higher education. The Authority is at present considering proposals to increase student places in a number of areas, including physiotherapy, as part of the decision I announced last September to create 6,200 additional university places generally over the next five years.
