Written Answers. - Graiguenamanagh (Kilkenny) School Accommodation.

Liam Aylward

191 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education when additional permanent accommodation will be provided at Graiguenamanagh vocational school in County Kilkenny; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1971/96]

In 1994, County Kilkenny Vocational Education Commitee sought the provision of a replacement school building for Graiguenamanagh vocational school. My Department considered that, having regard to the low enrolment in the school and the unlikelihood of any significant increase in the foreseeable future, a replacement school building could not be justified.

The provision of adequate temporary accommodation requested by the vocational education committee was, however, approved and is at planning stage. Last month the vocational education committee requested the provision of four additional temporary rooms and this request is under consideration by my Department at present.
