Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - Reply to Letter.

Declan Bree

Question:

197 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Education when she intends to reply to a letter of 11 October 1995, from Deputy Mr. Bree; the reason her office has been incapable of responding to the letter in the intervening three month period in view of the fact that she acknowledged receipt of said letter on 16 October 1995 (details supplied); her views on whether this type of response is acceptable; if she will introduce procedures to ensure that standards are improved and brought up to the level of other Government Departments; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1978/96]

The formal application by the authorities of the school in question was made shortly after the Deputy's letter of 11 October 1995.

This type of application can generally be processed within a short period of time. It was considered appropriate, therefore, to await a final decision on the matter before responding more fully to the Deputy's letter. On reflection, an interim reply to the Deputy pending a final decision may have been more appropriate.

A final decision on the matter is expected within the next two weeks. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome immediately.
