Vol. 460 No. 6

Written Answers. - Unemployment Payments.

Joe Walsh

Question:

218 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of people who were in receipt of unemployment payments at the end of December 1995; the number who were long-term unemployed; and the number in receipt of the single rate of payment. [1986/96]

The number of people who were in receipt of an unemployment payment on 29 December 1995 was 272,541. It is estimated that about half of these were in receipt of payments for a continuous duration of one year or more. Approximately 160, 800 of the overall total were paid at the single rate.
