Question:219 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number on the live register on which the 1995 and 1996 Estimates of expenditure for his Department were based; and the post-budget Estimate for 1996. [1987/96]

The live register underlying the published Estimate for my Department for 1995 was 266,000. The 1995 Supplementary Estimate was based on a figure of 278,000 which was also the outturn.
The average live register for 1996 on a post-budget basis is 275,000, while the average underlying the 1996 Abridged Estimate was 278,000.
