Question:

43 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the cost to the Exchequer of the work carried out by a public relations company employed by his Department in relation to a survey of journalists and others in agri-business in respect of his standing on various issues; if this work was commissioned as a stand-alone item or undertaken within a wider remit; if so, if he will give details of this remit and its cost. McMahon Sheedy Communications Consultants have been employed by my Department at a cost of £28,000 in 1995 to act as public relations agents. This firm has assisted in the preparations associated with a number of important events in the course of 1995 such as the launch of the food development plan and the charter of rights for farmers.

Drury Communications Limited were employed in 1994 at a cost of £25,621.75 for the same type of work. The survey referred to was part of this ongoing work undertaken by McMahon Sheedy.
