Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Callely — the question of introducing birching, flogging or other forms of corporal punishment for those convicted of certain offences; (2) Deputy Kenneally — the future of the military barracks located in the south east; (3) Deputy Nealon — the circumstances surrounding the omission of craftwork produced by students of the Ursuline College, Sligo, from the assessment of the leaving certificate art examination, 1995; (4) Deputy de Valera — difficulties regarding the funding and staffing of the National Library; (5) Deputy O'Dea — the need to establish a child abuse register in view of a recent case (details supplied) and the probability of further such cases; (6) Deputy Lawlor — the need for priority to be given to the construction of a new Garda station at Blanchardstown, Dublin; (7) Deputies Dermot Ahern and O'Rourke — the recent lay off of employees at two electronics firms at Dundalk, County Louth; (8) Deputy Michael McDowell — public concern about circumstances in which the Revenue Commissioners are authorised, when publishing the names of tax defaulters, to mention the name of the limited company only and to keep private the identity of individuals in whose interest the company was acting; (9) Deputy Seán Kenny — the recent outbreak of joyriding and the burning of stolen cars in the Kilbarrack area of Dublin; (10) Deputy Frances Fitzgerald — Government action in relation to the recent incident at Sellafield; (11) Deputy Geoghegan-Quinn — the decision of one of the groups representing those affected by the hepatitis C matter to boycoot the compensation tribunal; (12) Deputy Michael Smith — the question of initiating an inquiry into the case of recent tragic accidents at sea (details supplied) and the action to be taken in the light of these events; (13) Deputy Martin — the circumstances surrounding the omission of craftwork produced by leaving certificate students from the assessment of the 1995 art examination; and (14) Deputy Tom Kitt — the question of initiating an inquiry into the recent death of a man in Dublin following sunbed treatment and the regulations governing the use of this equipment.

The matters raised by Deputies Michael McDowell, Nealon, Martin, Dermot Ahern and O'Rourke have been selected for discussion.
