Vol. 461 No. 1

Written Answers - Home for Aged.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

86 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health the progress, if any, made towards the provision of a home for the aged in Achill, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2302/96]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware the provision of a long stay home for the elderly in Achill is a matter for the Western Health Board.

The board has carried out a review of the long stay requirements for the elderly in their region. The final report will not be ready until late March or early April but it is understood that Achill will be given a high priority. However, before approval can be given to any of the board's recommendations, I must take into account the overall internal priorities of the board and the capital funding available.
