Vol. 461 No. 1

Written Answers - Resitting Examinations.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Question:

90 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Health if he considers it appropriate that a doctor (details supplied) who has had temporary registration in this country for ten years and has practised psychiatry during that time has to re-sit examinations already passed in a reputable medical school before he will be granted full registration under section 27 (2) (d) of the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2455/96]

Limerick East): The registration of medical practitioners in Ireland is the statutory responsibility of the medical council. I have been informed by the council that according to its records, although the individual referred to has made inquiries of the council concerning full registration, he has not made any application for full registration. In the absence of the council receiving and considering an application for full registration from the individual referred to, it is not in a position to comment further on this matter.
