Vol. 461 No. 1

Written Answers - Shannon/Erne Waterway Claim.

John Ellis

Question:

98 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the reason a claim regarding works on the Shannon/Erne waterway in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim has not been settled. [2334/96]

The claim in question is one of several hundred claims for compensation in respect of the compulsory acquisition of land required for restoration of the Shannon/Erne Waterway. Most of the claims have been settled.

The papers relating to the claim under reference were inadvertently put away and have only come to light now. I can assure the Deputy that every effort will be made to conclude the matter in question without further delay. To this end I arranged for a valuer to call on the claimant yesterday. The claimant informed the valuer that he did not wish to pursue the claim which was lodged on his behalf in 1992 and indicated that he would shortly be submitting a new claim. This claim will be accorded priority when it is received.
