Vol. 461 No. 2

Written Answers. - REP Scheme Requirements.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

128 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Agriculture. Food and Forestry whether applicants for the REP scheme are required to obtain a herd number and flock number; and if so, his views on whether this is in conflict with the objectives of this scheme. [2651/96]

In general applicants under the rural environment protection scheme will have a herd or flock number. This, however, is not an essential requirement. In fact many REPS participants are engaged in farming activities, such as tillage farming, which do not require them to hold a herd or flock number.

Accordingly I do not see any possible conflict.
