Vol. 461 No. 2

Written Answers. - Driving Instructors' Register.

M. J. Nolan

Question:

93 Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, he has to set up a register of driving instructors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2709/96]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 33, 46 and 55 of 7 November 1995. The voluntary national register of driving instructors which is being developed jointly by the two national associations representing motor schools and driving instructors will, I understand, be launched fairly soon. I have indicated to those involved that, subject to certain conditions, I will be prepared to make a grant available towards the initial set-up and operational costs of the register.
