Question:

105 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education the projects in County Kilkenny within the youth and sports section of her Department where grants from the national lottery have been allocated from 1987 to December 1994; and the amounts allocated to each project. [3260/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 104 and 105 together.

Details of the national lottery assisted projects in my Department for the years 1987 to 1994 are contained in the Appropriation Accounts for the relevant years. In respect of projects assisted in County Kilkenny an annual grant is made available to County Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee to fund projects selected by the committee. The total funds provided over the past five years was £88,500.
In regard to the youth sector specifically, it is not possible to produce meaningful statistics on a county basis given the nature of the funding arrangements. A large proportion of overall funding is allocated to national bodies of the various voluntary youth organisations and local units are assisted by these national bodies in a variety of ways including direct grant aid. It is not possible to quantify the level of grant expenditure specifically in any one county. However, a special project aimed at disadvantaged young people in areas of Kilkenny city is funded through the National Youth Federation under the grant scheme for special projects to assist disadvantaged youth. In addition, a youth information centre in Kilkenny is grant aided from the Youth Information Fund. Grants to these initiatives have been allocated as follows:
